CALACS de l’Est du Bas-Saint-Laurent is dedicated to social, political and legal change to put an end to sexual assault and gender-based violence.
We are involved in collective action movements with many partners, including RQCALACS (Québec Coalition of Sexual Assault Centers), the Table de concertation des groupes de femmes, la TROC, UNIfemmes, La Débrouille, the Centre Femme de Rimouski, Mains BSL, AIBSL, etc. We sit on various committees such as the RQCALACS’ committee for the analysis of issues related to sexual assault and TCGF’s committee on intersectionality and committee on sexual exploitation issues.
We are advocating for the rights of all women and all people who have been victims of sexual assault. But more than that, our intersectional perspective leads us to get involved in many actions that aim for more socio-ecological justice in Québec and throughout the world. We educate ourselves and fight alongside activist groups against discrimination related to sexism, racialization, physical or psychological abilities, age, morphology, level of schooling, poverty, and violence experienced by the LBGTQ2+ community.
Our social and political action efforts are rooted in our practice. At CALACS de L’Est du BSL, we make sure to keep a critical eye on our feminist practices in order to evolve and include more and more women in our service offerings and to ensure that all women can identify themselves, feel represented and protected in their rights.
